Supercharger owners. Is it worth it?

I'm just doing some research. I'm a forced induction junkie.

What I'm curious about is the reliability of the SC's made for these trucks. Will the stock internals of the 2.7 handle the added pressure? What kind of psi do these things run?

I read I can get about a 35% increase on the 2.7. That's not to bad. It would bring it up to about 190hp and 220ftlbs or so right?

I know all about aftermarket forced induction. I have a turbo on my dodge avenger. Only problem with that is it requires constant maintinence. I want my Taco to be a reliable daily driver.

So, any suggestions or comments?

You might look for a thread Casey posted on here a few days ago. He just installed one on his 4 cyl and wasn't happy with the results. I think he only got something like 4 psi of boost...rather disappointing. Anyway, try searching for that thread and see what you come up with. I have never really read a whole lot on a supercharger for the 4 cyl.

Yea.. I did a search on the supercharged. I did see that post about the dude with 4psi. Maybe it wasnt properly tuned?

When I do a search for a supercharged I get alot of v6 info but not much on the 2.7. Guess I got the bastard engine.

The TRD 2.7 supercharger kit is a private labled down graded Alpine kit from South Africa. The first people that first started the importation of the 2.7 supercharger were members of Tacoma Territory and both are members of the New England Chapter. You may want to check out the New England Chapter site of Tacoma Territory for the latest info.

The origiginal Alpine kit was a top notch kit and if you are a member of Tacoma Territory you can still import it directly from South Africa. It uses a larger M-90 supercharger instead of the smaller M-62 that TRD specified for reasons unknown. The Alpine kit also available at different boost levels and has a UNICHIP piggy back computer and additional fuel injectors to suppliment the additional fuel needed.

If I was going to supercharge my 2.7, I would get the real Alpine kit instead of the stripped down problem ridden TRD kit. There are reports of wide spread drivabilty problems like low power levels, hesitation, and so on. I am sure all these problems can be corrected with suplimental fuel delivery and properly tuned with a UNICHIP.

You may also want to check out customTacos.com for info.
