Strange engine issue
 

Hi all.

I have a vey strange issue going on with my 3rz-fe. I have very low compression on Cyclades no 3 and it's not firing at idle, it showed all the symptoms of blower rings or a hole in the piston. We put a scope into the Cyclinder and the piston has no hole, but were getting massive blow by in to the crank case and it's only cranking to 35psi.

Now the weird at 2000 rpm it runs just like it should. The blow by to the crank case just goes away....

One tech told me that some cars have a vacuumed line that can cause this but didn't know about the 3rz...

Help please

My next step is to replace the damn moter and tear his one apart out of frustration.

sounds like rings possibly. when that piston is moving fast (high rpms) it could be making enough compression. drain the oil and look for metal flakes. get a automotive paint filter and pour the drained oil through there and see if you find anything.

but correct if wrong even if it fired at hight rpms with blower rings there would still be at least a little blow by, it completely goes away

Do you have an air compressor? Might be worth trying a leak down test, see where the air goes.

Maybe try a 'wet' compression test prior to that to see what happens - dump a modest amount of oil in the cylinder and see if the compression numbers go up.

It does seem a little odd.

Well I'm picking up a short block on Monday and looking for a new head now.

Once we swap it we will pull it apart... If minor il probably fix it and keep as a spare or sell for a gear change...

Back on the form after a hiatus
I was finally able to work on the truck a bit.
The short block turned out to be a huge headache and I still have a stripped block sitting in my barn. Yay me.

Long story short we pulled the motor apart cyclinder # 3 has a damaged intake valve.

No holls in pistons all the Cyclades look good.

But we also found an excess of oil in the intak wtf ???
