stock transmission cooler thread size
 

hey guys, got another question today, cold and rainy out figured i get my R&D done for the day lol! anyways, i am running an external tranny cooler and starting looking the Toyota set up for it and i noticed that the hard lines most people attach the hose screw in the tranny. (pics below) i have read on the massive 18 page thread on on yotatech about external coolers that some people trimmed their hard lines back...i don't wanna trim. i want to replace them with standard barbs, thus allowing more flexibility for cooler location and i want to run a filter for the tranny and there is a lot more room back there. also if i do pull these does Toyota put some sort of thread locker on it, if so what do you guys recommend? i used Loctite 518 on my tranny set-up now and for and the temp gauge, would that work down there? don't want that stuff actually in the tranny causing problems. anyways love yotatech!

No, you don't touch those things to install an auxillary ATF cooler. What you're going to disconnect are the two atf hoses attached to the bottom of the radiator.

First install the auxillary atf cooler. then disconnect the two hoses attached to the bottom of the radiator and connect them to the barbs on the auxillary atf cooler.

Yeah I aware of that and I'm actually running a trany cooler but I want more flexibility and more hose! Thus the reason for wanting to put barbs on, I can trim them down with a pipe cutter I guess lol

I think you should just leave the metal lines. The exhaust is fairly close in that area and rubber hose may not like that too much. I had some plastic sheathing for my trans cooler gauge zip tied to one of those metal lines and about a foot of the plastic sheath melted away.
