Stock Stereo Dead (accept Radio) in 2000 4Runner

Hey everyone. For the past 2 years, my CD player and that other slot below it that takes some sort of tapes :) has not been working. I'm at my wits end listening to the radio and am thinking of getting an inexpensive replacement. If I get a new in dash CD player/Stereo, do I need to get a new mounting unit or can the new radio just fit in there?

The stereo thats in there now is pretty tall it takes up a lot of vertical space. I figure I'll need to block out the bottom half or put in a pocket of some kind.

Just curious if I need to get mounting brackets or if the screw holes are standard for all radios.

Thanks,

Fish

i bought an install kit from best buy, has everything you need. It also comes with a pocket to fill that gap.

crutchfield.com is by far the BEST place to get car stereo equipment. their free 24/7 customer service is top notch and theyll help you with anything you have trouble with. theyll send you the correct wiring harness specific to your vehicle and the stereo, and a pocket to fill the gap. you have to retain the metal brackets on the sides of the stock stereo.

I have a '99 4Runner Limited that had the stock CD/Tape deck. I'd sell it to ya cheap. Plus I have the amp that goes with the unit as well. This would make it an easy swap for ya.

I 100% agree with drguitarum's comment. I've always had a great experience with Crutchfield. And the harnesses that he mentions comes FREE with every kit. I completely redid my stereo system in my Civic and customer support guided me through everything. They even provide you with a print out of installation instructions. I wouldn't take it to Best Buy, as they will sell you some crap. The stereo install is a breeze, anyway.

But I really like the stock stereo in my 02. I think if it went out, I'd get another one from a member here.
