Stiff Brakes
Hey All,
My runner has lost it's power brakes. I've searched quite a bit and can't seem to find much about this. I still have brakes, it's all my leg can push to get the truck to stop. I have; replaced check valve replaced vacume hose ran truck, killed truck, then pulled check valve, I get a suction sound out of the booster. Doesn't that mean booster is good?? foot on brake, start truck the pedal remains constant. I do hear what sounds like a vacume sound under the dash when pushing on the brakes. Also, I don't see any leaks any where around the master cylender or brake booster. Full disclosure... I do have a leaking rear axle that completly staturated the D. side drum brake parts in 80/90 oil. Been like that for several years. After the power brakes went out I degreased and power washed the rear brake. My only other idea to do now is to check all 4 corners and make sure brakes are not sticking. I did the front brakes about a year ago, cleaned and used anti-seize on the pins. Any thoughts or ideas of what else the problem could be? What to check? 2000 4x4 4runner limited 225k miles! WTF!?!? THANKS GENTS! J |
It sounds like the booster is bad.

Thanks for the reply James.
I was thinking that by running the engine, shutting it off, imediately pulling the check valve and hearing the vacume sucking out of the booster meant it was ok? Any other ways to test for bad booster? J |
