Squeaky brakes....arrrrgh!
Yes, me and my brakes do not get along lately (posted a few days ago about vibrating brakes)....well they've been squeaking ever since I got the truck a few months ago. I got it pre-inspected and they told me that the brakes were practically brand new, so I know I dont need new ones. It's not a metal-on-metal sound anyway. Its more of a squealing noise that only happens when I'm slowing to a stop....the harder I press the less they squeak. Any ideas?

If they told you the truth and your brakes are in good shape, they may just be dirty. Try either sparying them at the car wash with high pressure or use brake cleaner, which you can buy for a couple of bucks.

Some pads just squeak. Since they don't use asbestos anymore, brakes tend to squeak more. If they look "like new" and your ride has a good number of miles on it, chances are, they are new, and are not Toyota brakes, and thus likely can squeak. That's not to say that good brakes don't squeak. I had some performance brakes on my car and they squeaked a bit more than most brakes, and my brother runs MetalMasters pads on his car and they squeak as well. It's nothing to worry about, but if it really bothers you, you could probably go back with toyota pads and they would not squeak anymore.

Thanks guys! Yeah, the noise is annoying but it's something I can live with. Especially knowing that they are just dirty, which is what I figured...just wanted to sure. I'll try spraying them down or getting some of that cleaner. Thanks again

Making sure that you put the goop on the silencer shims on the backs of the pads can make a huge difference to. Doing this right has corrected many of my brake squeaking problems ('course, so does bending back the wear indicator!), but you seriously might want to check that too.
