Speedometer Problem
Hi, I have a 1992 4Runner and the speedometer some times work, and some thimes do not, almost the time it do not work.
Please give me some advice on how can I fix it. Thanks |
Rena,
Primero encuentra un FSM, Manual de Servicio de la Fabrica. Tendra detalles sobre todas partes que podrian tener problemas. En cual manera funciona o no funciona? Parece electrico or talves con el cable? Ruido o sin ruido? Guys, is the second gen a speedo cable or electric? |
According to Mtchell On-Demand, if your '92 is V6 4x4 with Auto. Trans. then you should have a #1 speed sensor Transmitter on the right rear of the transfer case. Also there should be a #1 speed sensor reciever on the back of the speedometer. I would probably start with the transmitter because it is easier to get to and check for anything obvious like melted/cut wires. As far as specific tests on the sensors and wires, a more detailed service manual is desired for exact procedures and test result values.

FYI, Rena asked about this about a month ago: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...threadid=19293
Rena, what have you checked so far? The autos (like mine) have a gear driven speed sensor outputing an electrical signal to the speedo. |
If I remember correctly, I know in the trucks around 92 is when they started switching over from mechanical speedo to electrical. If I were a betting man, I would bet that his is electrical, but thats just me I'm no expert.

Rena, this is starting to be a common problem with 92's for some reason. Do a search and you will see all of the members who have had to replace their speedos recently. Mine was doing the same as yours before it finally quit altogether. you will probably end up replacing the speedometer to finally fix the problem. The speedo runs for about $150 american. Good luck and I hope this helps.
