Specs on a 22R?

what are the specs on my 81 22R 4MT? I just found out that it has the 22R :)

what specs are you looking for? i think it has 95 hp

kyle_22r 09-11-2004 12:50 PM

you've got the L45 4 speed, not as bad as the boat anchor L43 i have in my truck, but not the stoutest tranny out there

as for an '81 22R:
96hp @ 4800
129lb @ 2800

Are there any mod's thatll give this puppy some power?

Kyle....your 79 looks to be taken care of pretty well! looks to be in better shape then my 81! :bigok:

ahh yes, everything looks fine on the outside, but take a look underneath or under the hood  pretty much needs a complete overhaul.

'81s had the worst gearing in any toyota 4x4 from the factory, 3.90 in the axles. a cheap power upgrade from stock would be to get 2 8" third members with 4.10s and swap them into the axles. you have to pull the shafts out, though. 4.10 is the most common gear ratio through the years of toyota trucks, and can be found for as little as $40 each if you look, as a lot of people are regearing deeper to compensate for larger tires

engine-wise, there's some stuff you can do. a weber 32/36 or 38 carb is a good match for the 22R. you can also add a header and cam, but you need to pull all the head bolts to swap out the camshaft
