should stealership do the work?
ok we have a 03 taco off road .the other day a friend of ours drove our truck pulling a trailer not much weight in it as it was empty we just had the p brake done the day befor. well he left the p brake on slightly but because it was as new as can be it musta had some drag plus a trailer , i was in the truck while he was towing it, he was reving it high i told him to take it easy on my tranny .he says well it feels like theres drag on the truck well of coarse there is i say yer towing a trailer dumb ass .
but the day after the [clutch i take it] started slipping [ by slipping i meen it revs high no power b4 itll grab and go] in forth the day after it slipped in 3erd now second soon first i bet to . so should i find a local shop or should i take it to the stealership and get raped all work done on our truck is done by toyota so far >................................................. ..........................< |
In this situation, if the truck is out of warranty (65K, unless you got the extended warranty), I would still take it to Toyota.
Just out of curiosity, did you check the clutch fluid reservoir? Did you have any issues with the clutch previously? Was he "smoking" the clutch? What do you mean by "high revving" - 4K, 5K RPMs? |
I assume its a manual....

Then again, now that you mention it...if it is an auto, that's a horse of a different color... |
yes its a 5 speed high revs i meen like about 4.5 to 5k no i didnt check any fluid resivoir cause there has never been a problem with anything including the clutch no smoke seen there is no chatter grinding or any other noises other then it reving high befor itll go into gear
.warranty is over the trucks going to toyota tonight so we will see is there any other way a tranny can slip other then the clutch |
Well if I was you, as said in another post, I would check the fluid resivoir beforew taking it in to the shop. Just because you never had a problem with it dosn't meen it dosn't need fluid.

cant check fluid right now wife is out in the truck at the moment but she will be home shortly .
if it was the fluid what kind of fluid should it be toped up with i would check the owners manual but its in the truck |

I am using the w.a.g. method so bare with me.
I think you fried the clutch while towing. What gear were you towing the trailer? Up big hills? |
I agree that was a difficult read....
