shocks
ok i got a question for you wise people out there.
ok i have a 94 4Runner and am planning to got with the 3" downey kit and cranking the torsion bars in the front. since my rig is in the shop as of today getting the water pump and the timing belt replaced i wont have the money for the lift as soon as i would like, but i still need shocks really bad (the stock ones are starting to leak) so my question is, would it be ok to use the longer rancho shocks on a stock suspension? thanks! |
Not sure about your shock question, but I'm curious about your front suspension. Are you just going to live with the rear a lot higher than the front?
Shocks act as the extension stops in the rear. If you get too long, your gas tank and driveshaft will become friends, really good violently abusive friends. The springs also may pop out if you use something in the 27" extended range.
Here is my truck from a couple years back with a 3" Downey rear and 15" rim to fender up front. I ran it like that for quite a while before getting 33's and still have no real front lift and slightly more rear lift. http://www.montypics.com/pic.php?url...ay_Shot_1_.jpg |
so then no. damn. i guess that means i'll just have to wait till i have enough money for the shocks coils and spacers.
Hmmm...that doesn't look bad at all. With my 1.5 inch HDs my rear is slightly higher than the front. I was thinking with another 1.5 inches it would look wierd. Maybe I've got to do some searching for some FJ coils...
well thats why you just get some aisin hubs and crank the torsion bars to raise the front
Yeah, but you can only go so far with that.
very true. i think the 3" kit wont exactly give me 3"s though. i have A LOT of rear sag.
But the downey kit replaces your stock springs: http://www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/rearlift/index.html
Is this the same kit? If so, then you're going to get at least 3 inches, if not more. Over time, it'll probably sag back down to 3 inches. Anyway, from adrians pic and geiger's pic it looks like it'll be pretty close to level after cranking the tbars. :bigok: |
yes. thats the kit. yeah im sure i can get pretty fricken close to level with the torsion bars.
