Seatbelt tip

My seatbelt was getting weak and would not retract. I was always closing it in the door or trying to untwist it. I took it apart to reset the spring. There is a link if u search for it in here. I pulled apart the wrong thing and it flew apart and the spring ended up ruined in a knot. Cheapest I could find the belt new was $118 from the dealership. I went to the JY to see if I could find a belt. I have never found a 4Runner in the JYs here and didn't have any better luck this time. I did find that late 90's Lexus ES300 uses the same sping assembly. I got them off the lexus and put it on my retractor and works like new. Only difference was the color. I got mine a '99 ES300.

Man, Do I need to fix My seat Belts, They are Bad.

KONASTAR 03-21-2009 07:45 PM

That's useful information for me too. thank you!
Our seatbelts up front on our 4-runner are toast too! and in need of replacement real bad......
man, if i can't find a set from a doner vehice here, the dealership is probably the only way to go for me. it sucks!

There are no auto recyclers here in my town. they crush um' and ship them out.

I am sure that there are many other Toyota's you can get the spring assmbly off of. The ES300 was just the newest Toyota I could find out there. I did look at a T100 and a SC400 but they were different.

I found a LS300 just sitting out in front of this guys house with weeds growing out around the thing.

I pulled up and went to go check it out and HOLY SH**!!!:eeek:...... this huge samoan dude like 6' 12 came out of this house n yelled at me.... but the guy turned out to be really cool and stuff.
so yeah i think i scored me a set of seatbelts....
i'm here at home to get tools, so i'm heading back there to get them.

I swear, the man was huge! i could imagine what his kids look like....

I choose not to use the seat belt out of the ES300 because I wasn't sure if it was the right length and was slightly different. I am not sure what specifications it has and if it may not lock / unlock correctly since it is in a different vehicle. thats why i just used the spring assy

KONASTAR 03-23-2009 12:39 AM

Gotcha.. the seatbelts that i got from the LS has the same spring pack assy. that looks exactly like the one's in your pics.
i'll get to work on them tomarrow.

Thanks for all your help! :bigok:
