Running rich with ECT power?
I turned on my ECT power the other day just to tweak with it and see if there was any difference. Well, I drove around with it for a little bit, not gagging it anything and I started to smell something. I met up with a mechanic friend of mine and he suggested the smell was from it running rich. I havent been smelling it until I messed with the button. What could be causing this? I'm getting a tranny check up tomorrow (Monday) since I'm due on the rebuilt one.
Any ideas? Thanks |
ECT does nothing to your engine. It locks, unlocks the torque converter which will make your tranny shift at higher rpm's thus holding the gears slightly longer.

Well, i only started smelling it when after I pressed the button. What are some typical issues of running rich? Do you know?
Emissions system sensors, ie. O2 sensors.
Oversaturated charcoal cansister from topping off too much if you do that.
What is a charcoal canister? What is its purpose? Yeah, I probably have a bad O2 sensor.
The charcoal canister captures fumes from the fuel tank and re-introduces them back into the engine.
Topping off too much meaning too much gas in the tank?
No reason to drive around with the ETC on. It's used for merging in traffic from a dead stop or needing a little faster take off. It just allows you to wind out a little more with out the tranny shifting on you so soon and dropping your rpm's.Don't why your getting the gas smell but it soundslike good advice above. Mike
