Removing Gold Badges
hello my fellow yota fans...I have a '95 4Runner Ltd. w/ the gold package, complete w/ gold badges that I'm not too crazy about. Does anyone out there know how I can properly and safely remove them w/ out accidently causing any self-inflicted damage? thanks in advance.

HEEEYYY Friend... Whatcha doing with the emblems... :bigok:
I would love to take them off your hands.. maybe a embelm trade??? You looking for chrome? Mine were brand new a couple of years ago.. Let me know.. Also, yes dental floss and a wooden dowel, cut 2 6" pieces of the dowel.. and wrap the floss around the dowels, and use them as handels... |
Big help
This should be a big help. I do it when applying and removing emblems/stickers. For removing, heat the spot with the emblem up with a hair dryer until it's hot to make the glue more malleable (sp?), and then use acetone (nail polish remover) to dissolve and loosen the glue. Dental floss does help too, or if you're careful, a planar razor. If you're applying, clean the applying area with acetone, dry with lint-free towel or paper towel, wipe with damp paper towel, and then dry again with dry paper towel. Heat area, then heat emblem, apply, heat again, allow to cool. It helps the glue stick.

Are the emblems really that easy to pop off just using dental floss?
|
Yep, they come off real easy.. But the center emblem (the toyota logo) has 2 pins to line it on the tailgate
BTW, here is a trick for saving body side mlds that are 2 side taped on.. (as long as you can ruin what it is on) Use a propane torch on the back side of the mld and it will fall off (good for getting old body side mlds off old junkyard doors ect without streching them Works for inspection stickers too (woops.. did I say that?) |
Thanks for all the great tips; Hopefully it'll be as easy as it sounds.

more tipz
good luck. i just used floss. Double/triple it up and slooooowly slide it between the emblem and the body. I found that mint worked better than plain waxed. :bigok:
Seriously, it works. you will have some of the 2sided tape still adhering to the vehicle. I hadn't heard of using acetone before, so I used some bug-and-tar remover to get off the residue. |
Doesn't the acetone remove the paint?
|
i just used a hair dryer.. let it heat up the glue for like 30 seconds, then ran a piece of dental floss behind... slides right off.
|
WD40 also works real well at getting off that adhesive residue.
