Remanufactured (Aftermarket) CV Axel Experiance?

Finally getting around to fixing my CV. Found a lot of threads about changing the CV Boots and swapping in aftermarket axels.

My question is for those that have used aftermarket and/or remanufactured axels what is your experiance?
- Do the boots hold up as well?
- Are there any brands that are better or to avoid ?
- If so where do you get them (or not get them)?
- Are they more prone to problems than OEM axels?
- .... ?

I am leaning toward replacing just the boots with Toyota OEM boots (maybe VW inners down the road). My 4runner has 88K on the original boots and they were in great shape untill the axel popped out of the inner race.

Any input would be great.

Thanks,

Rob

If you're looking for a rebuilt assembly (says "86 - 95 4Runners"), check out what this guy is selling on Ebay.

Ian,

Thanks for spotting the ebay axle.

I need one today, turns out mine is in worse shape than I thought and not worth rebuilding. AutoZone has them for $69 with core trade in stock, so it looks like that is what I'll use.

I may buy the ebay one for use as a spare though.

I apreciate the response.

Rob

Those CV's on E-bay are kinda pricey, the reason that I say this is, I bought 2 complete axles on a forum awhile ago for $40 for both, including shipping from Fla. to PA.!, and I rebuilt them for $20! They only needed new boots, so now I have 2 complete axles sitting in my garage~! Total price $60! Resale value $80>! It never hurts to have extra parts laying around!

I think I only paid $65 for my replacement CV from advance auto they just need the core back.
I have a spare laying on box on my porch it needs two CV boots though.

Mine are still Toyota not Junk!
They'll probably snap in a heartBeat when 4wheeling!

Thats the whole point of my question.

Are only the genuine Toyotas good? Wouldn't rebuilts use toyota main parts?

Anyone broken a rebuilt more easily than an OEM ???

I have had an Auto Zone reman. axle shaft for about 2K miles now and there is no problem...i hit a curb at 50mph when an idiot pulled out in front of me and nothing happenend to the boots. I highly suggest the AZ ones be/c if they tear you can get a new one b/c of the warranty...it says no off-roading though but im sure they don't ask q's.
