Rear main seal Q's

anyone else had issues with their rear main seal being very leaky..........got a new clutch done a few weeks ago and the shop put on a new rear main seal...........well a day later the thing let go and emptied all the oil outta my engine.

the shop payed for a tow and replaced the seal at no charge.

now its been almost a week and i think the stupid thing is leaking again.............only much more slowly this time.

im gonna drop it off at the shop monday/tuesday to have it looked at (cause its still under warranty for the new seal). im not worried about having to pay anything for repairs...........i was jsut wondering if anyone else has had a PITA rear main seal problem like mine.

p.s.----the shop is a pretty reputable place so im not worried about shotty workmanship but now im kinda thinking it would have been less of a hassle if they'd use genuine toyota parts (which im pretty sure they don't but ive never had any other issues with replacement parts before)

p.p.s------------sorry about rambling on

I had a very similar problem with my 2nd gen. I had a major tuneup performed and they replaced all the seals. Now, either the front main or the rear main seal was leaking like crazy so I took it back to the dealer (had the work performed there). At the time I wasn't very knowledgeable so I don't know whether it was front main or rear main. The seal was leaking because even though it was the oem seal, it didn't seal properly due to high mileage (240k) so they put a sleeve on to make the seal fit properly.

good luck!!
