Rear heater removal and bypass

Does the complete disconnection and removal of the rear heater throw any codes on the system? To me it just takes up space. Also, does anyone have good pics as where to bypass the rear heter completely from the engine bay so I can remove unnecessary rustable metal bits? I found plenty of threads but no photos. No need for a heater in the south. Thanks.

Disconnect the rear heater up in the engine bay firewall. Just unplug the two hoses connected to the rear lines and use a barb connector pipe to connect the hoses together. Very simple to do

Exactly what I ended up doing, thank you. I was getting stressed about the coolant going everywhere and overthought the problem.

You'll want to get a new console that doesn't have the blower in it, to make use of your new space.

Not necessary, but it would close some gaps now there. A small sheet metal riser bolted to the blower is what the console mounts on, so I just took it off and mounted it without the heater parts.

Hi CWM... I have to do the same thing on my 2000 4Runner. I rear lines are leaking. Do you have a pic of your pipes bypassed?

That is some invasive surgery to remove that rear heater and blower for extra space, most just replace the line with rubber or copper and reconnect, alot easier that making room under the passenger seat for garbage to hide.

We keep seeing pretty, shiny lines on the 01-02 4runners at the junkyards...my husband replaced his 99's rusty ones with a set of them.
