rear driveshaft zerk broken off. help!

okay so i went to lube my drive shaft because i was getting vibration, and i noticed the zerk fitting was broken off. i could see where it hit the gas tank skid.

i could get a new one, but there is still a little piece in the hole still.

any ideas to getting it out or another way to lube because it is DRY.

same thing happened to me. took it to a shop, they drilled it out n put a new one in. not sure if they had to retap w/ new fitting. cost was minimal. i also got them to grind out that corner of the gas tank skid...so it doesnt happen again.

Drill it out and use a screw extractor to remove it.Should not be in too tight.

You must use a special zerk fitting drill bit ONLY!

Regular drillbit will work, but ideally you would use a reverse drillbit so if it snags it just unscrews the zerk. Reverse bits are awesome for that kind of stuff. I have a Snap-On set of 5.

Drill undersize and use a screw extractor, also called an Easy-Out (available at sears)

Actually I have the same issue, broke it off after I lubed it up. I'll get it next time 'round.

just use a small EZ out screw extractor, the hole in the center is large enough....

There is no need to use a "special zerk fitting drill bit"

If for some reason it won't come out get the proper drill size, then use a 6mm x 1.0 tap to clean out the treads. I finally ended up putting a set screw in mine, after breaking about 10 of them off.
