Rancho 5000 Question
 

So I got some Rancho 5000's for the rear and I am trying to install them. I am able to push and pull the shock apart and together without a ton of effort. Is this how they are supposed to be? Or should I not be able to push the shock down and have it stay? I didn't think I was supposed to be able to do that. Also when I removed the old ones I took off the bottom bolt, slid the bottom ring off the post and the shock dropped out, is this normal? Or should it screw in to the top mount? Any help would be appreciated. By the way it is a 97 LTD 4Runner.

shock is bolted at the bottom and the top and it shouldint of dropped right out i had to cut mine out as the top bolt is a pita

If I am not wrong when a shock is cycled really fast up and done it gets stiffer than just pushing or pulling them. So I would think that you could move them by hand with out much effort. But then I could be wrong.

Yeah, I just found that out on the other side. Somehow the first side got sheared off at some point and I've been driving around like that. Thanks.

Alright, mind if I ask how you cut it out?

That's just what they feel like, Rancho 5000's. Don't try to run them upside-down, they need mounted with the boots pointed up (if you have them, and toss those stupid things if you do, they cause more harm than good). I have gas-charged shocks in the front (not Rancho), they're the kind that self-extend like your thinkin' of.

sawzall placed right in the middle of the rubber bushing no sure if theres a easier way but its not fun getting that big ol saw in place

Very cool. That worked like a charm. NO MORE BOUNCING!!!! (Runner had original shocks on it with 190K on the clock.)
