Radio replacement
Walmart has 2 different radios on clearance and I'm looking to replace my factory radio in my 4Runner since the backlight in the display has started intermittently coming on and off. I'm wondering if either one of these is worth buying for the price:
Pioneer DEH-P5900IB for $124 http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...rs/DEH-P5900IB or Sony CDX-GT50W for $99 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=17391 If not, any recommendations? Thanks! Dianna |
Can't see the Radios the links don't take you to the right place I guess.
Repost the links if you can! I think Pioneer and Sony are both good brands names tho . |
You could look into buying a used scion radio(pioneer) on ebay.My CD was messing up and I found one cheap.Needs very little to modify to install(bracket and slight center console cutting(inside)),plug and play w/4runner harness,it bypasses the factory amp.The coolest thing is it can play MP3 discs, and some have a plug in the back and with a cable can hook directly to MP3 player...And it sounds way way better than the factory unit in Xb mode.

Here are a couple that are simple: Sony-Simple and $79.99 http://www.crutchfield.com/p_158GT13...0.html?tp=5684 Kenwood.$99.99..plays MP3/WMA Aux-in in the front for any MP3 player. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113MP14...2.html?tp=5684 Pioneer $99.99 same features as the Kenwood. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1301100...P.html?tp=5684 JVC $119.99...this has the most bang for the buck...plays MP3/WMA disks, front Aux-in, Built in HD Radio Tuner, optional Ipod control w/optional cable. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KDHD...0.html?tp=5684 Lot of stuff out there, the models listed in the first post are discontinued models. |
I have a Pioneer Premier 790 BT. Installation is simple. Use the stock brackets & get a wiring harness kit, It is almost plug & play. The Pioneer sounds great, but the buttons are pretty small. I don't know why so many aftermarket radios have small buttons. Fortunately mine came with a remote.

i like pioneer my self

defiantly go with the 5900ib for the price that is amazing. i have ben an installer for 3 years and have been very satisfied with the pioneer but not so much luck with the sony's in the long run. that model of pioneer has lots of options for ipods and other mp3's. the sony has trouble playing mp3 players other than ipods.

I, personally, would never buy another Sony car stereo. Home stereo on the other hand...
|
I replaced my alpine unit with a sony that's very similar in faceplate design to the one in the original post. My sony is amazing...I havent owned a pioneer so I can't judge, but if the internals of the one above is anything like whats in mine, the sony will sounds much better than stock.

go to brandsmart usa, i got my hd radio there for $100

go to wal-mart and mess with both of them and see which one is easier to work for you, ive heard good and bad about both, but to me a radio should be easy to work while driving
