o/s off?????

The "o/s off" light came on my 98 4-runner. Does anyone know what that means? I am unable to find the manual.

rimpainter.com 07-29-2003 09:26 AM

You sure you dont mean "O/D"

If that is the case, you pressed the OD button on the left side of the Auto trans shifter.

Never heard of O/S before.

sunaly 07-29-2003 09:27 AM

yes yes, I mean o/d you are right. okay, where is the auto trans shifter?

rimpainter.com 07-29-2003 09:28 AM

Are you kidding me?

sunaly 07-29-2003 09:30 AM

no i am not, it's not acutally my truck, I know nothing about cars. I am just borrowing it and the light came on. I was scared I did something wrong. I just want to make the light go off.

sunaly 07-29-2003 09:32 AM

okay, automatic transmission shifter, figured it out. is the button acutally on the shifter?

rimpainter.com 07-29-2003 09:35 AM

Ok, well I thought you were messing with me or something. :pat:

Yeah, its the overdrive button. You have disabled the overdrive, which is kinda of like a 4th gear. You will notice that the RPM's will be higher as you drive around town and especially on the freeway with the O/D light on.

You did not hurt anything, but for the best economy push the button back in.

sunaly 07-29-2003 09:36 AM

thank you very much. I really appreciate it!!!!!!!!!!

Its been a while since I had my Auto Tacoma...was the OD button on the left or the back of the shifter? For some reason I think it was on the back. :dunno:

Seriously, who knows? Its bugging me now.

Oh come on...
eveyone has to start somewhere, right?

Christian:
I think it's always on the left side - so the driver can see it and not have to only feel for it.

AznSky 07-29-2003 11:56 AM
