possible 99 to 98 center radio console retrofit
Hey guys,
i purchased a 99 center radio console to see if i can try to retrofit it into my 98 4runner. i can see some potential harness incompatibilities, but who knows if these can be overcome.
it seems that the rear defrost, the ECT and the rear tailgate window are all bundled into an IC that is connected by one single harness. can someone verify this for me? please see the attached pic.
2nd question: can anyone provide me with the wiring diagram for the IC?
thanks,
bob

Bob-
Somebody has successfully done this. I remember him having a 5spd, as he didn't use the ECT button...Norcalvp, perhaps? If I remember correctly parts of the old switches were implemented into the new ones some how. I'll do some searchig.
Edit:
Here ya go.

yep, I bought Norcalvp's '96 with the 99+ radio console bezel swap.
The ECT button is there but of coarse it's inoperable.
The other day i needed to use my hazard lights and when i pushed the button, the whole button assembly fell through the bezel. :pat:
I'm gonna be taking everything apart pretty soon to fix the button, install my whip antenna, and possibly install a new headunit and CB. I'll take pics if anyone wants.

thanks,

are you going to order the female connector that hooks up to the back of it or did you get it when you got the whole center dash piece?
its connector C23, part number 90980-11923, if you need it... i'm just hoping that if i order it i can pull the wires from the old switches and snap them into this new connector...

garrett,
when i bought the 99 piece, it did not come w/ the connector. after recieving norcal's last email to me, i should definitely get it. he says its much easier. i have been too tied up to get it...low on the priority list. i also have to buy the duct piece for the AC vents as well.
