Performace muffler, but dont want loud??
I would like to put a performace muffler, ie. something that give more hp, possibly more mpg. What I want though, is it to sound pretty much like stock, which is quiet. What muffler can will do this?

I'm going to assume that you have a v6 in your 4runner. If it helps I just had a turbo muffler put on my little 4cyl and I can't hear it inside the truck, and it gave it a decent rumble if your standing next to the truck. Other than that it sounds pretty stock and gave it a small but noticeable boost.

Check out this thread and go with the 20" Ultra Flow SS dynomax 17286 or something similar:

Dynomax's site is: www.dynomax.com
The one I recommend is Stainless Steel so it doesn't rust and is made for the stock tubing size of 2.25"

I'll tell you if it's too loud or not, but I'm sorta going for a loud sound. Go for a longer muffler if you don't want sound

I wanted the same thing. I researched Corey's exhaust page. Then checked out webpages and comments. I found that the Dynomax was ok, but there were complaints on highway drone. Same with the Magnaflow.
I thought i was set on taking my chances with the dynomax, so I started shopping at the muffler shops. I told the shop what I wanted, and he recommended a Flowmaster 60 series. It is made for 4 and 6 cyl engines, and gives it a low (non-raspy) tone. The best thing is that it doesn't drone on the freeway. I actually hear my S/C over the exhaust on the freeway. In the city, it has a really low tone and sounds great when I open it up.
I recommend the 60 series.
