Oxygen Sensor Difference

Yes, I did search but didn't see anything on this question

I picked up a Bosch O2 sensor to replace the the sensor before the cat and noticed that the stubby end that goes into the exhaust is shorter than the one that is currently installed. Why is there a difference? I noticed on the Denso and URD site that they both have the longer stubby end. Is that because of the California emissions?

The rear sensor is the same way with the longer stubby end. My 4runner came from Arizona, only has one cat (2000, v6, 4x4, auto).

from what i have read when i was replacing the o2 sensors on my highlander is that the Bosch sensors don't work with Toyota's they don't fall with in the spec's as for the end being shorter it might be just the way they make that one,

I would return the bosch and get a denso unit.

x2...

Getting the right O2 sensor part number can be a pain. I have had trouble with the wire lengths on rear O2 sensors. Check out this thread about it.

It's about rears, but you can find the same info for the front ones to make sure you are getting the right one (autozone's website shows the wire lengths, but you have to search for the denso part number, they won't show up if you surf for it). URD follows Denso's site, and Denso's site isn't always correct.
