One Con with owning a 2nd gen.
 

My rear tailgate window motor decided to take a dump on me in the up position when I had a full truck load of stuff. I had 2 sliders, a 33X10.5 spare tire, and all kinds of other stuff back there. I had to take my front seat out just to get everything out. That so badly sucked.

I’ve managed to get the darn window down now I just have to replace the motor.

If I would have had a 35x12.5 back there it might not have fit through the front door.

I had to completely deconstruct that chest in the middle of the day in 90 degree weather in the back of the runner. It SUCKED soooooo badly.

Damn -- yeah, that sucks. I might have opted for the brick through the back window, instead.

The brick crossed my mind a couple of times. LOL!

I love my 2nd gen but man I hope I don’t have to do that again for a long time.

To me there are really only 2 major problems with the 2nd gen. The 3.slow and the rear window. I can fix the 3.slow problem but I’ll just have to live with the window one. Unless I want to do what 4hummer did and chop the back off. LOL

You could take the top off with the 1st gen or could you not with the window up.

Do you have to take the glass out to take the motor out or can the motor be unscrewed without taking the glass out?

i had to get to the relays and cut them open and mess with them to get the window down its still like that to this day i havent found the problem.

I’m pretty sure the relays are good. The wired thing is my rear wiper stopped working also. I spent most of the day playing around back there. When I put outside power to the motor I get nothing so I’m sure the motor is toast. I’ve ordered one so I’ll just have to wait and see if that fixes the problem.

I hate to be the one to ask the stupid question, but with the rear window wiper going out as well, I've just gotta ask... did you check the fuses ? :think:

I just replaced my entire tailgate guts.... Back window got busted out, and my regulator and motor wasn't sounding to good. It's easy to do... If you haven't done anything yet, flip the side latches that hold the gate (when closed), then try and get the regulator so each arm is straight. unbolt the regulator, and slide it left or right to pull the entire regulator/motor assembely out. You shouldn't have to remove the window. Take a screw or nail and stick it through one of the holes in the regulator arms and bracket so that when you take the motor off the 2 arms will still stay aligned, otherwise with the coiled spring on there it can be a pita to get the 2 regulator arms aligned.

Also grease it all up, teeth motor and everything. And run some silicon grease on the inside window track, for the 1st few roll ups and downs, you'll need to clean the grease off the window, after that your window will roll up and down nice and fast and real smooth.

i went almost a year without a working back window.....then i got the wiper to work and then i got fed up with it and dropped the cash on the $250 motor, plus labor and got it fixed. Im about as cheap as the come and i have NEVER regreted having that fixed. Best 350 dollars i ever spent.

Labor? Thats not any more dificult then changing the oil. I thought it was going to be to a pain, and it was easy. I could probably get my back window off and on 15 minutes.

Dude you mean to tell me it could have been that easy? LOL. That was the first thing I checked.

I got the motor out and have one on the way to replace it. It didn’t take long to get the motor out, It was easy as pie.
