Oil Filter Relocation Kit

Has anyone of you installed a oil filter relocation kit on your truck. If so has anyone put one on a 02 Taco 2.7L 4x4. Pro's/Con's????

Pro:
1. Easier filter access. Can make oil changes a bit easier because if properly located the filter is easier to replace.

2. Better filter orientation. The filter can be mounted upright thus negating the need for a functioning anti-drainback valve. A great improvement over some engines where the filter is mounted on its side.

3. Potentially larger oil capacity. A remote filter setup usually allows fitting a larger filter or even two of them. The increased size of the filter(s) increases oil capacity slightly which aids (slightly) in cooling.

4. Cooling. A remote mounted filter mounted in the airstream will better act as a cooler when compared to one mounted to the side of the engine.

Con:
1. Increased possibility of leaks. More fittings equals more possible leaks. Many so-called "kits" come with cheesy rubber hoses that usually start to leak within a year or so. Get a kit with good quality braided stainless hoses or piece together the items you need separately.

2. Possible longer period of no oil pressure after startup. Only possible if the filter(s) are mounted in a position other than upright. An upright mounting also allows pre-filling the filter(s) during an oil change.

So wait... is it better for the filter to be oriented downward (flow of oil out of filter) or upward?
Down, right?

I refer to it as upward with the opening up top. I suppose that could also be referred to as downward. In any case, with the opening up top, it will not drain out and back into the pan.

Does anyone know where I can buy an oil filter relocation kit from besides Performance Products?

Go to any speed shop or even many regular parts stores. The ones that fit Ford will work just fine on Toyotas. NAPA & CarQuest can order one and get it in short order if they don't have them onhand.

edit- Dunno what PP is charging for their kit, but a good quality setup from Summit Racing will run $90.18 for a single, $103.18 for dual. Both of these include 6' of AN-8 braided stainless hose and fittings, etc.
