Off-road Lights
Hey, is anybody running off-road lights on a stock bumper? I got a set to put on mine, but I can't afford a brush-guard or anything like that and was wondering if it would be ok to run on the stock bumper.

You can do it.
I had Hella 500s on my '91 4Runners stock bumper until I got the ARB bumper for it later. http://pnw4runners.com/tando/mod5.jpg http://www.pnw4runners.com/tando/fall9.jpg |

Why would it be a problem? You should have plenty of room to mount any light you'd want.

Lightforce FTW:banger:

I run lights on my bumper.. "BAJA" lights or something.. 15$ @ Walmart, misewell tape a couple mag lights to the front of the truck but they work decent for what I paid.. |
You guys are the best. Only problem I can see is all of the above trucks have steel bumpers, mine is plastic. I got plenty of room and I'm using some sheet metal for stiffening brackets. Look forward to see the install :D
|
I've got some $17.99 specials mounted to the bumper of my 4runner, the only issue is going fast on a rough road with them on, they bounce around a little.
|
The "bumpers" on newer vehicles are not much. The real bumper in the big steel beam under the lower valance. I made a pre-runner style guard and the stock bumper shook alot. The lights still worked great but shook.
|
i like my hella 700ff with 100w bulbs the bumper is pretty thin so they ten to bounce around when things get bumpy but down the highway there fine i plan on making some brackets to stiffen things up

hows the output on the 700ff? i was tempted to fork the extra 10 bucks for the pair at kragens. upon looking at the size of my headlights i got the smaller ones to keep things clean.

Rowdy: you could probably run a strip of 3/16" x1.5" under the stock tupperware and that should keep it from wobbling too bad. Just be sure to run a good ground too.
BTW: How do you like the new Taco compared to your first Gen? Glad to see you were able to keep it... |
Yeah OC, I was planning to use some sheet metal to stiffen things up. Waiting for this weekend or a free moment in the afternoon/evening to install.
PS The taco is treating me well. I looove the 4wd and the "new-car" reliability is good. Clutch is really hard to press and there are a few quirks here and there but overall it gits r dun. |
I did :hillbill:
