and now this...

Question..... anyone fab up their own rear wind deflector/spoiler? Being told the 1992 2nd gen did not have them put on. In the middle of fabbing up some roof racks/storage basket to clamp on to the existing stock racks, and thought the spoiler would add a nice "balance" to the overall appearance. :guitar:
Nice working with lightweight aluminum(1" square tubing), the one most prominent note is the fact that it is lightweight and wont bow the roof. I just hope it holds up....
Any ideas for the spoiler??? Guy on ebay wants 35.00 on top of 32.00 for shipping. Anyone close enough to Charleston AFB SC willing to trade a spoiler for a set of running boards in excellent shape?? :)

Just about every 90-95 4Runner I've ever seen has a rear roof spoiler. I just went to the Autotrader and the first 5 I looked at all had them (then I quit)

well dang, guess i am gonna be makin' one.....

Flamedx4 Feb 14, 2005 09:04 AM

How about cutting a piece out of say, 6" abs pipe for the spoiler part?

Str8krazyNCO Feb 14, 2005 09:16 AM

can you elaborate flamedx4?? Help out a blind man here.....
and the ingenuity thing........... i would never :nono: put anything to "hickish" on my rig- she's to purdy, even though i have seen some really gaudy things people do to cars.

respectfully

how about a 4-6" polaris or apache pipe flipped over( with the angle down)???

I was always gonna make one for my 85 to try and keep some of the crud and dust off the rear window. My plan was take a piece of 6" (or whatever size works out) ABS pipe and run it through the table saw (lengthwise!) to get the curved spoiler piece I needed . About one third of the piece of pipe should do it. I even made brackets at one time, but never quite got around to finishing it up.

Gaudy? I know what you mean....

dibble9012 Feb 14, 2005 04:10 PM

that seriously makes me want to scream, lol

Str8krazyNCO Feb 14, 2005 04:13 PM

You got it flamedx4, THAT is the gaudy i am trying to avoid!!!! I will give the abs a shot and let you know if it would be worth it :dunno:

flamed4x4- What did you make the mounting brackets out of when you were originally gonna put one on? I see the idea with the pipe on the table saw and all, just curious on how you were going to mount it-

thanks

I can't offer much advice on making one, but the Helix Surf second gens have an awesome spoiler. Might want to look for one.

I used good old fashioned hardwood, I think it was Walnut actually. Sealed in epoxy resin, sanded smooth and painted black.

I have a 92 4Runner and my rig didnt have the rear spoiler. So i went to my local junk yard and picked one up. Cost was under $20 and its a factor part. Just take some measurements so you can transfer them to your rig.

Japan models

Yes that is correct the 4runner in the states is called a HILUX SURF over here in Japan and it come with a pretty neat spoiler for the SSR G trim level. The SSR G is the top of the line model over here and for GEN two that meant a REAR spoiler with brake light built in, the rear or high mounted spare tire, cruise control, 8 speaker sound system, pwr windows, pwr sun roof, pwr door locks, TEMS (Toyota Electronic Modulated Suspension(it just changed the damping force on the shocks it sucks) brush guard with o/r lights basicly all of the options available, plus the spare tire to the back vice under

I can post some pics of the back sied if you want...

dragon- i was in okinawa for 4 years and miss it. Please post the pics of the Hilux---- damn they were nice on that small a$$ Island-
