Hey guys, I have a couple of problems...

Whenever I get to higher speeds, say after 55mph, I feel shaking through the steering wheel. If I let the wheel go, it will go from left to right. After I had an alignment and my tires balanced, it was a little better, but know it is shaking more than it used to.

Also, whenever I apply the brakes, there is vibration that feels like it is coming from the front. It may be that the rotors need to be shaved, but i am not sure.

Check to see if they torqued the lug nuts properly. If they are ok then your rotors are probably warped.

I would check the lugs first. Just loosen them and then tighten each one across from the previous one just tightened or criss-cross. If that doesn't fix the problem then yeah, your rotors are warped.

 

but what about the steering wheel that is shaking when I am driving...could it be bad shocks, cv joints, etc...?

 

The vibration induced when you apply the brakes is likely a brake problem, like warped rotors.

The constant vibration you feel when driving down the road could be a lot of different things, but the most common problem is a wheel/tire or balance issue. To diagnose and fix the most common problem on these trucks you may want to check this out and I hope you find it useful:

Also if one of your wheels is bent, it will balance but you will still feel a vibration. So if you hit something and it bent your wheel then it's time to find another wheel.

I don't think the steering wheel shaking will be bad for anything.

If I were you, I would get my tires balanced again and tell the mechanic to look for a bent wheel. It will be one of the front wheels because you usually don't feel vibration from the back.

Ok here's the possibilities:
1. Wheel out of balance
2. Bent wheel
3. Warped rotors - I guess if they are severly warped then it might cause vibrations when driving. Mine are a little warped but I only feel it when braking.
4. Improperly tightened lug nuts.

That's all the things I can come up with right now.

Maybe you should look for a gremlin in your wheel well trying to rip it off

One thing not mentioned. Tires with any kind of lug pattern tend to cup, will cause shaking in front first and rear as cupping worsens. Might try rotating tires and see if that changes things.

 

I had the same problem after getting it balenced and alinged and still not fixin it, i took a look at teh brakes and the rotors were not only for a 4 cylinder (which dosent mater, but it does matter to me) but the were warped as well, since then smooth sailing....hope it helps
