Question No I know doors are not supposed to unlock when you turn on blinker right?

Recently, my 99 4Runner has been going through some midlife issues and thinks that it is acceptable to randomly lock and unlock the doors.......even with the key out.

This started a month or so back when a buddy was in my car and when I hit the left or right blinker to turn....you get an "Lock, Unlock, Lock, Unlock" on the same tune as the blinker, like running on the same switch. This now evolved in to pure randomness. The other night I thought i heard something and sure enough, after hours of non use and keys on my key ring, this car was locking and unlocking the doors at random. Just today on my drive into work the issue continued.....

Question is who has encountered this and was it a big deal to fix? I am not electically savvy and really hope I do not have to re wire stuff. Any ideas on "what to check and rule out"?

Thanks in advance by the way,

Josh, owner of a yota with a mind of its own.....

My driver side door has been acting funny, when i take turns or go over bumps it unlocks. The mechanism on the inside door frame, I think went bad and I am waiting on the parts so that I can replace it. Which I hope helps, it could be something you could look into as well.

Though very strange your door unlocks with blinker, and I know how you feel that sound eventually gets very annoying.

that's WIERD!!!!!! I wouldn't think the wires for the blinkers would be anywhere near the wires for the door locks!!! LOL And to get the "Lock Unlock" with each click of the blinker is the wierdest part!!! I would have thought it would need to reverse the current to get the opposite reaction that way!

Wish I had some advice for you, Sorry! My only thought is the wires have come in contact with each other and have worn the housing off of each and they are arcing. : [
I had this issue with 2 wires on my starter! They had worn the insulation off and would randomly contact when i hit a bump! A couple times they stayed together and ground the starter pretty good!!! But thankfully it is a toyota and after I seperated the wires, I'm still running the same starter!!! : )

Good Luck! Keep us posted!!

there is an integration relay that on some models has everything going through it. like the blinkers, hazard lights, head lights, tail lights, and yes even the door locks.... maybe a place to start. warning... is super expensive for a new one like $150 +

my old 97 Ford Ranger did that crap... not the locking thing mind you, but... when I'd turn on the headlights the hazards would flash, or the brake lights would flash with the blinker... or the cab light would come on when I'd put my foot on the brake.

it was the steering column... apparently it's a common issue with those.

/random

not toyota related mind you, but gremlins are gremlins dude
