New shoes for the Tacoma!

Well, after reading tons of reviews and going back and forth about which size to get and which tire to get, I settled on a set of 285/75R16 BFG TA KO's for the Tacoma. Had it done through Big O Tires(manager is a friend of mine and they've always treated me right). He actually helped me with the minor rubbing issues, and even let me use his tools there in the shop. Overall, I am really happy with how it came out. There is now only very minor rubbing in the rear at full stuff, but if everything works out like I'm hoping it will, I will have some extra dough in the near future to put on an 1" BL which will take care of any residual issues, hopefully enough to even put in some 4:88's. :bounce:

There has been a slightly noticeble drop in power and mileage, but I expected that, and the gears will fix that...

As far as the tires go, I have run these tires on two other Toyota trucks and I have always been happy with them. Good wearing, and they do really well out here in the desert.

Now for the pics...

Those look great, did you have any balancing issues?

Actually, yeah, but I think it's the wheel, because I had a bit of trouble before these tires with one particular wheel. Being steel wheels, it's a good possibility that one's a bit off. This weekend I'm going to get it back to the shop and see if they can isolate which wheel is off. It's not a huge issue, and I've had it up to highway speeds and it's not horrible. But I am going to get it dialed.

Nice looking shoes tacoclimber. The black rims look good on the truck too.

Nice! Your truck is CLEAN. Damn, looking at your truck makes me wish I never would have beat mine up so bad! Better yet once you do gears, do a rear locker and lets go dent that perty thing up....do I hear roadtrip?

Aw, man, I was just checking out that thread... Unfortunately, I'm going to teaching at a men's retreat that weekend. If I was free, you can bet I'd make the drive to see you guys, especially now with some tread I can trust!
:cam: You guys better take lots of pictures, so I can feel like I was there...

Oh yeah, Marc I'm sorry I missed ya when you were down... It was probably better, though. My grandma passed away this past weekend, so I really wouldn't have been free.

But next time, amigo, next time! :great:

Got the locker, just need the gears. Gotta get some protection for the sheet metal, though. I still owe on this baby, so I can't get too crazy...yet

(You know I stared at the picture for a few seconds thinking that you had photoshopped something into it and then I realized what you meant... )

But yeah, you're right. "Wheel what you got, but for crying out loud, WHEEL IT!"

Deeper meaning is overrated, I actually meant the front chrome needs to be painted to match the rest of the truck, it looks so natural and perfect that you didn't even notice!
If I meant wheel it I may have chopped it onto some rocks or something. :D

 I didn't even notice that you had blacked out the chrome! I'm such a dork... Anyway, yeah, you're right... Just gotta get a few hours to myself. It's on the list, that's for sure. I got rid of the rear chrome bumper and flipped the hitch for better clearance, and I'm seriously thinking about building off of the hitch and going with a steel bumper. (I think MossyRocks did that and it turned out good.) My biggest problem is not having enough time to do this stuff. But, I'm getting there, little by little!

I forgot about this pic. This was right after they got put on, and I will admit that the only reason that I am posting it is because it has both my truck and my bike, which are two of my favorite modes of transportation. :D

You have such a clean looking Taco. Looks great!

ecchamberlin 10-07-2006 12:34 PM

Agreed! That is a very clean looking d-cab Taco. Very cool.

Only thing I would do would be some sliders.

rocket 10-07-2006 02:32 PM

I think you need to take it off some sweet jumps now. :D

Yeah, soon as I have the coinage, that will probably be the next mod. I haven't really wheeled much in the last couple of months, mainly because I didn't trust the tires that were on there... Right after I left the tire shop, I went and found the first trail/wash I could get to and had some fun. I know I'm going to be needing those sliders soon! :hillbill:
