New Rig Has Rust

Picked up a 2000 4runner 4wd with a 5spd manual transmission. Very clean exterior and interior the but the undercarriage is a different story. Can anyone share their opinion given the supplied photos regarding the extent of the apparent rust damage?

Here are the photos:

normal- feel blessed! some guys on here would trade their wives for your frame/undercarriage parts...

Thats not bad at all. Spend a few hours and scrape the surface rust off, then coat with some spray on rust inhibitor.

You live in San Francisco...what do you expect? Salt air and a moist enviroment = rust. Consider yourself luck that at this point it's not too bad.

I would be thrilled. If it bothers you much you can always get some rust remover and brush/spray that stuff on there. Then once it is gone you can paint it in some type of protective coating.

Salty environment, drove on a beach..
Wire brush and rustoleum...

Just saw that it was a 2000--that is minimal

Thanks guys, this is really nice encouragement ... this is actually a car that lived in MD its whole life.

Very similar to the undercarriage of my 2001. I've done my best to keep it clean since purchasing the truck new. Unfortunately, Toyota was not overly concerned with applying a robust paint layer to the frame... :(

That said, the truck now has 261,xxx miles and I see no reason not to hit 300,000 miles next year. :)

WOW! That doesn't look bad at all. I spent a whole day with a die grinder, numerous wire wheels, wire brush and alot of elbow grease to clean the undercarriage of my 2001 that spent it's entire life in the rust belt of Ohio. Yours looks really good to come from the east. Good luck!

Yea thats not rusty at all, looks solid, just a wire brush like pervious suggestions, then coat er in oil

Did you post up the correct pictures????

I was looking for rust but I could not see what you are talking about.

Then if you never saw real rust I could understand your being concerned.

As long as your not changing your steel fuel and brake lines after 2 winters your doing good.:wabbit2:
