The wifes 96 4runner has about 196K on it and it rides like a lumber wagon.

I am assuming the suspension is original toyota equip.

I've been to wab fab (looks like 2-3" lift stuff) and I've seen "bilstein" setups here.

Where is the best place to get "stock height" front struts, and "stock height" rear struts.

Not looking for any lift, or anything HD, just replacment Struts and shocks.

I guess I would prefer Blistein or OME, not autozone stuff.

Any part #'s?

Get replacement springs and pair with Tokico Trekmaster shocks and struts (sonoran steel system 3.0) It's close to stock with a big more control. Bilsteins HD will be too harsh (trust me I had them and removed them)

For $699.00 for a stock system, I might as well lift it.

I know I said I didn't want to lift it, but that is ridiculous to spend that kind of money for a stock suspension.

So Bilstein does not make a NON HD strut/shock.

I'm planning to go this route shortly. I have a 1999 with 127,000 miles.

I'm just getting the Trekmasters for now ($269 at shox.com). I'm keeping my springs.

But the spings are less than $100 each from toyotapartsales.com

I also asked shox.com which shock was softer, they said trekmasters.

Bilstein is the best on the market IMO. And remember we aren't talking just your typical shock either, your talking struts and shocks. And IIRC Bilsteins also have a lifetime warranty. You get what you pay for. Spend $700 now or spend $200 now and $200 a year from now and $200 another year from now etc etc, I think you can get my point.

I have Bilstein HD's in my BMW and they aren't that harsh at all. A little stiffer but well worth the better handling they give. Now if were are talking Bilstein 5100's then yeah you might not like the on-road stiffness of them.

I just put bilsteins on all 4 corners of my '00 4wd. It was a night and day difference in ride quality. I maybe drive off road once a year and those are just light trails. Nothing requiring a lift so I wanted to maintain the stock height/ride quality too.

I'm not sure why everyone says the bilsteins are "stiff" I feel like my truck rides great. I'll be honest, I've only driven it twice since the install but it feels great. The ride is just tighter overall. I think most of the comments are attributed to the gradual decline of the oem equipment. You put new stuff in there and its like 3 notches up when in reality maybe its a half notch stiffer than stock. I'm pretty sure no one remembers what their truck drove like the day it came off the stealer's lot..

Anyways try shockwarehouse or tirerack both were cheaper for me than shox. I reused everything and just replaced the dampers on all 4 corners.
