Need Help Quick: Can Bilstien 5100 front shocks handle OME 882 Coils?
 

I just got a call from Wheelers off road in Oregon. I spoke with Dan, who was telling me that he doesn't really feel too comfortable putting OME 882's on the Bilstien 5100 Height adjustable strut system. He suggested that I got for some OME shocks, which I said was fine by me.

I just wanna know if anyone is running The Bilstiens, and if they think that they can handle and 882?

Of course Bilstien corporate is still closed for easter...

Don't know why Bilsteins wouldn't handle them, but there's nothing wrong with OME.

The HD Bilsteins should "handle" the 882's, but you want to make sure they're long enough. Some shocks don't extend far enough to work with those coils. I found that to be true with the Rancho RS5000 series shocks I had up front. I went with the OME N91SC comfort valved shocks up front because I knew they'd work with the 882's.

Keep in mind that the 882 coils are quite stiff, which is why many people go with the OME comfort valved shocks. I've heard some people say that the Billies are quite harsh. Combine that with a stiff spring and you may be setting yourself up for a bone jarring ride. I've been completely happy with the OME N91SC's and would highly recommend them to anyone. The Bilsteins are a good shock too, but not necessarily optimum in this application.

not exactly what you're asking, but i'm running the 881's w/ topout on thte 5100 bilsteins and it is perfect. the 881 and 882 are totally different though, so you may want to go w/ the ome's that wheelers recommended. can't go wrong either way though imo.

note - a friend of mine has 882's on tokico trekmasters up front and it rides like he's got concrete for springs. the ride in his tacoma is enough to almost make me sick when i ride with him...idk if its the springs or shocks or both, but the ride sucks big time

Well Jon at Bilstien said that setup would be good to go, so I stuck with the 5100's. I'm hoping that between an ARB, with a winch on the way and a BudBuilt Skidplate, the 882's will give me what i'm looking for.

The TRD springs are so bloody soft; I feel like i'm on a boat.

The 882's are a good spring and will definitely stiffen things up for you.

You should be alright, with that bumper and winch but it'll be a bitch mounting them. Better have a shop put em all together. I just mounted 5100 Billy's in the 881 and it worked fine but the longer stiffer spring I wouldn't attempt to do myself.
