Looking at a 97 tacoma
 

I've found an extended cab 97 Tacoma. Dont know much about it yet other than it's an auto. Not sure what motor is in it. I plan to go look tomorrow.

what are some things to look for on these model trucks? What are some common toubles/issues with them? One concern I have initially is the automatic transmission. Never had an auto toyota and never saw much positive from them.

I currently have a 94 5 spd with the 22re.

I am guessing you live where Winter is maybe 50 or 60 degrees

The most interesting problems are the frame sort of just flakes away like this if you see winter chemicals

Yea, I'm in S Ga. I may call and try to look at it today. I really hate to sell my truck, but it's one of those deals where I've thrown a price out and have some interest and they sound serious about it. I've always wanted/needed the extra little bit of room, but I'm almost getting cold feet!

Guess I'm gonna scratch the 97. It turns out to be a 4 cylinder auto with 300,000+ miles. Original motor and tranny. It looks good, but with that many miles, its bound to start having failing parts and that means a good bit of money.

If looking for 3rd-gen 4Runner or 1st-gen Tacoma.
