To Lift Or Not To Lift?

Just wanted all of your opinions, I did some Photochopping. 2" (or so) lift for the 4Runner or not?

Man this is killing you, isn't it?!?

I say go for it. That pic looks lilke a little more than just 2", but I'd still vote for the lift!

I hope to get my OME's this week....

Damn, and I thought I'd measured it out properly. I'll try measuring again tonight and see if I can make it more accurate.

And as soon as you remove your running boards, it would look even higher!!
On my 2nd gen, I went from 235's on chrome rims to 265's on factory aluminums nad pulled the running boards at the same time. I had a few friends ask me how I EVER got a lift on my rig in one day!!! It looks like it's a mile up in the air...... hmmm, come to think about it, a lighter color like that, it'd look even higher than it really is.

HBoss 03-24-2003 12:29 PM

Unless I get sliders (which WILL happen one day) the boards won't be coming off.

The vehicle gets too dirty w/o them & no front mud flaps and people (I.E. the gf) already complain that it's difficult to climb into. I'd never hear the end of it. ;)

YoungFeller 03-24-2003 12:48 PM

This is an argument about looks isn't it? What is this? :dunno:

When it comes to looks, I'm all for leaving things just as they are. I'm contemplating an OME kit for my '85, but it's only for the bump-absorption and control, not for height (or looks).

For me (I'm 6ft 9in) the running boards are annoying... The seat is right at the perfect height for me to slide right in. Good thing I have yet to hear a complaint from the gf about no running boards... they were the first thing I took off my truck (well, them and the bug deflector at the same time). oh well, I can't wait to get my lift!! Mike, where are you? :D

TDiddy 03-24-2003 12:56 PM

My OME's came in today, can't wait to get them installed!

Nope. It's not an argument & it's not just about looks. Well, if you just look at the pictures, then yes it's about the looks. :) My personal reasons for the lift are/would be:

-looks
-upping the clearance
-the ability to put bigger tires on

(not necessarily in that order)

I'm doing the lift regardless of the results of the poll. I just wanted to know some of the opinions out there, is all. :D

H, I think your rig would still "look higher" than it really is. If you go w/ sliders and they are black... it sort of blends in and "gets lost" on the bottom of your rig.... I think you'll see what I mean. Why not crop another pic for us? Just black-out your running boards, shrink the pics and side by side them for comparison. Can you add about an 1/8 in. or so of black around the tires too?? Simulate some taller treads for us??
I like your rig... sharp. I sort of regret not getting a 3rd gen.....

HBoss 03-24-2003 09:48 PM

Well I fixed the original pictures. If you refresh them in your browser now, it looks more realistic.

Here's the old pic, which would be more like a 3" or 4" lift:

I haven't got a chance yet to Photochop sliders and 33s, but soon... :D

Gotta lift it, I'm having SAWs and OMEs (and some other goodies) put in my 4Runner this week.

MY024runner 03-25-2003 10:37 AM

I say lift it.You will like it:D

don_davi 02-07-2004 11:58 AM

How much more highway noise with lift if any?

Also, reduced gas mileage?

Just curious and looking for reasons to lift mine also.

I rarely go camping and no trails that i'm aware of here.....man i hate u guys.....

breakerfalls 02-07-2004 12:33 PM

2 inches of lift is good for a daily driver if you ask me. I think that 33's look great on any generation of 4Runner or Tacoma. Not so big it screems Yeeeehawwww, but enough bigger than stock that it looks agressive.

Just my opinion.
