k&n vs. Snorkel

Should i get a k&n fipk system or a safari snorkel for my 95 4runner i just wanted to get some opinions.

if you do some serious off roading a snorkel would do better than a K&N.

2 completely different intake systems for 2 different reasons give some backround info

I want to do serious off roading but i also want to have better performance/ gas mileage so i just need to decide i guess.

niether will significantly improve your mileage.

there is a ton of 'serious offroading' that doesnt include deep water crossings, or maybe water at all. you just have to decide what you need. if you think you'll need a snorkel, dont let me discourage you. just dont wait to find out if you need one when its too late and you hydrolock in a stream. also, you could always get a snorkel and k&n filter.

a snorkel doesnt have to be used, and isnt only intended to be used for, deep water crossings. Depending on what kind of wheeling youre going to be doing, i.e., dusty trails with multiple rigs, dirt back roads, and if your are also dealing with a lot of water that you may need to cross, deep muddin, then go for a snorkel. If you dont plan on doing that, and stick to rocks and mild mud, go for a k&n. thats my opinion.

alright thanks guys i think ill stick with the k&n

Son's 85 PU has been hydro'ed twice (that I know of). Last time it threw a rod. Snorkel is practical and costs less than an engine.

Heres is your solution.........nobody has a better price............

take it from a guy with a K&N, get anything else. It sounds nice at WOT, but buy strap22's snorkel. They look nice, run colder air and you'll be helping out a fellow yotatecher that always hooks up the online community. :great:

The K&N filter do a lousy job of filtering dust offroad, stock air filter works much better. I just did a review on the True Flow air filter. I'd go that route and add a home built snorkel.....

That's exactly what I'm going to do with mine, assuming of course I get a job and money and a 3.4L and twin snorkels and... this whole poor college kid thing sucks

6lug 10-19-2005 03:17 PM

twin snorkels????

Scottz 10-19-2005 09:52 PM

I won't run K&N filters. I use to use them all the time but not anymore. Stock is the best thing and is designed by Toyota engineers to give you the best performance. And I said stock Toyota, not Fram or some other filter.
