Interior Spare Tire Mount
Hey guys, been doing some searching on YT for the past hour or so and haven't found anything about this.
I was thinking a few months back about getting one of those fabbed up 1st gen roll bars for the rear of my 3rd gen, my only reason for doing this is to have somewhere to mount a Powertank/Fire extinguisher as well and more importantly for a place to mount my spare 285 BFG mudder. Has anybody done this, thought about this, dreamed about this, wondered if this could be done, asked somebody if this could be done? I need thoughts, I am totally willing to shell the cash for it as long as I can make it work. I have no metal fabbing experience, I can weld pretty well just no fabbing experience. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks, Fink:devil: |
I did the bar mod'ing myself and then painted it to match my sliders and front bumper (hammerite stuff).
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...hedrollbar.jpg Then I also got tired of dragging my spare tire so I just used a ratchet strap and strapped it to the bar's bottom seat belt bracket. My spare is a full sized 285 MT on a LC rim. It is very stable and has never moved. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...gowithtire.jpg When I get time I am going to play around with a long bolt and wing nut to secure it and attach a CO2 tank to the other side. I tested a 10lb bottle in the passenger side front corner between the bar and the back of the back seat and it fit perfect without taking up any additional open cargo space. The black box is my off roading kit with spare CV and fluids.... That is only in there on wheeling trips. That way I do still have a decent amount of storage back there for normal DD stuff. |
I saw this on Pirate yesterday:

Those are both awesome.
I like the roll bar look a lot and the functionality is a huge plus. I'll get in touch with WabFab and Sonoran Steel and see what the cost'll be. This could be new mod. How hard is it to secure the actual roll bar? Awesome pics guys, thanks a lot! Fink:devil: |
woow i really like that tire mount, pretty sweet, any idea who makes it ? Armorology said they would make me one, just never really looked into it.
|
When I first saw this post, I was going to recomend looking at Eric's stuff, but of course he posted it in here first. I really like that roll bar look in the runners. But that tire carrier from pirate is pretty hawt too.
|

Fink:devil: That bracket is pretty cool to though. On a runner you could mount that on top of the wheel well and save some more space which we don't have a lot of to begin with. |
somebody really needs to produce that second mount, id buy that in a heartbeat
|
Yeah...I would buy one of those as well.
I'm gonna do some searching on Pirate to see if I can track this guy down. It'll be $250 for the rollbar and then another $80 for shipping or so...expensive as heck for a spare tire mount, fire extinguisher mount and flashlight mount. I don't know what I'll do yet...still researching. Thanks guys, Fink:devil: |
Okay, I just tracked down this guy's email address and emailed him.
I'll see what he says. I can't imagine that thing costs too much...doesn't look too complicated. I'll post up with what he says. Fink:devil: |
I think I might just build one of these I'll show pics if I decide to do it doesn't seem to hard just looking at it.

I think the roll bar and a fabbed up tire mount like the Triangle in the 2nd pic wouuld be a great idea. My bro's got a 1st gen that doesn't work and he said i could have the roll bar if he sells it. i'll cross my fingers.

I'll cross my fingures for you too Thats a sweet deal... |
 thanks that's funny

does the tire on the roll bar annoy you for your view out the rear?
right now i have mine strapped down flat since i ditched the surco rack. takes up a lot of room but it hasnt been much of a problem -- plus i can still use my cargo cover. |
lee
is really doesn't take up that much room in the rear view. I tested it out prior because I thought it would be too much obstruction. Not at all. If it was pas side that would make for some blind spot issues but not on the drivers side. I got the idea from a Jeep Cheeroke. They are all mounted in the same spot. I will say though that a 285 is as tall as you can go. Mine fits fine but anything bigger may have trouble. |
