Intake

I was thinking of getting a cold air intakke, or just trying taking the spoiler and inner tube off the air box, using k&n and putting a tornado in, Is it worth going straight for the whole cold air intake system or try the other? I have a 91 SR5 3.0

Hey Nate, welcome to the forums.

Have you tried a search on intake stuff? There's tons of info and opinions here from older posts.

You're really going to put a Tornado in?
I know there's some debate as to whether or not that's worth the $$.

Well, if you do go for it let us know what kind of positive/negative effects you get from them, yeah? :bigok:

Oh yeah, welcome to the board. Great people and a TON of information here!

Nate, look in the Tech section.
The Dr. Z mod called ISR can be done to the 3.0s very cheaply compared to going out and getting a K&N Filter Charger.

I was recently at a shop that specializes in Toyota's only (He actually told a Jeep owner to basically take a hike while I was there, guy was so pissed :D )
Anyway I was there because of a check engine light, lean condition, and the first thing he asked me was "Do you have a K & N filter?" I don't, but he said that 80% of people that bring in their trucks with similiar problems have a k&n, and the problem goes away with the filter.
I trust this guys opinion, he's been working on Toyotas in SD for over 25 years, and he's saved me alot of $$$ by not BSing me.
I know I won't be adding one anytime soon. :chicken:

Where's this guy located???
I just gotta know!

In Sharp contrast I've had my K&N for over 10,000 miles without a lick of problems on my 3.0. Were talking about two different kinds of engines. I've had K&N in every single thing I've owned with an engine and never had any probs. Someone not liking them is fine but it's just like everything else if I posted on here I got 3 more miles to the gallon by wearing a pink tu tu I could about guarantee and least one or more of you guys would be driving around in a pink tu tu the next day!

K&N filter? Or K&N FIPK? The difference is about $150, the latter is their more expensive system which I believe was proven to be less effective than the ISR+deckplate. Personally I run a K&N filter (about to switch to Amsoil) with the deck and ISR mods and don't have any issues - quite the contrary, I'm damn happy with it! :D I also pull the ECU fuses for 15 minutes every time I do a major intake mod, just so it forgets whatever it knew before and relearns it. That way it doesn't trip up with a "suddenly lean" condition, I know I'm operating from fresh data.
