Installing mudflaps, need guidance

I am installing some aftermarket mudflaps on my 91 4runner. I need a little guidance on bracketing them to my rig. I cant mount them in the wheelwell being i have 35 inch tires and they rub. So i am having to work with the bottom of the rear bumper area. Anyone with pics or tips? Thanks in advance. ben

Could you mount them in the wheelwell and just bent the brackets towards the rear? Where do they rub at?

They rub at the base of the bumper/rear fender well. more so at flex but also when backing up. I thought of doing the design you said but i think that would look cheesy. I want the hanging straight down look. i was thinking I should do a spring type unit to keep the flap from flopping into the tire to.

look at the big truck ones... napa sells them and has them in stock..... also give a look into the petersens tacoma that they hacked up for the magazine, they have that type of flap on there as well, basically makes them removeable.... the worktruck we use for jobs has mudflaps, its a flatbed on the back, it had straight bars that come off a plate that is welded to the frame, and the flaps are mounted to that bar

Hey Ben, you'll need to set them up about the same as CJ has his. I think the brackets are welded to the frame behind the wheel well.

If you attach to the frame remember NOT to attach to the body. One or the other.

With 35s they can't go 'in' the edge of the fenderwell and just be bent back. They really have to go a bit behind the wheelwell opening. I made brackets for mine (from scratch for the front, and modified the rears) and tried to make them look as much as possible like they could have been factory. I found some small truck style flaps to cut up. You can't really tell in the pic, but they are about an inch behind the opening - butting up to the bottom of the Bushwackers. pics here https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/front-mud-guards-45839/
