ignition coil OHM Readings... 97 4runner 3.4 V6
 

I am getting a cylinder misfire code for cylinder 4 and 5. as well as a random misfire code for all cylinders...
I checked the OHM reading on the ignition coils. They are all reading at 1.3 OHM's. The book indicates that the normal range should be 0.6 to 1.05 OHM's.

I find it odd that all the coils read identical yet most of the time the engine runs fine.

I do get a rough idle when the engine is cold and especially under heavy acceleration.

Can anyone confirm what the correct or acceptable OHM's reading should be? and if this could be causing the misfire???

You've checked your plugs already? What brand plugs? How old? How many miles on the truck? What year were the ignition wires made (it's inked on each wire)?

When coils fail on those trucks, it will be a pair of cylinders that misfire, and the codes are almost always stored in memory.

So you got codes P0300, P0304 and P0305

You need to check primary and secondary resistences, not just primary as you did.
Primary = 0.67 - 1.05 ohms (You may have a bad multi meter if all read the same)
Secondary = 9.3k - 16k ohms

Due to the fact that you have a random misfire and cyls 4 & 5 are not connected, I doubt it is a coil pack issue.


What have you done or had done to the vehicle lately? Maintenance (timing belt)? Mileage?
Always helps to ask first since it helps to have the history when diagnosing.
