Idle Problems

I'm having a problem with idle bounce in my 88 4runner. It idles pretty high (1.5) but when I apply the brake the idle drops down to less than .5. At that point it begins the bounce with about 1 bounce per second. Sometimes when it's idling high it has a steady idle climb to about 2 until a quick drop back down to 1.5. This causes a bounce as well just over a longer period of time.

I recently replaced the PCV valve and gasket. I'm also going to change the plugs, distributor cap, and rotor. After that I'm going to check the timing and finally adjust the idle.

Any ideas on what this may be or what type of repair i'm looking at?

Is the A/C on or off? You may need to adjust A/c idle and curb idle. You need to make sure your rubber intake pipe isn't cracked.

Do a search here for 22RE idle (guessing that is what motor you have), you will find a plethera of information on the subject. It can be your TPS, your idle set to high (needs to be approx 900 rpm), vacum leak, etc.. etc.. etc..

Did you damage or replace the lower intake to upper intake gasket?Broke the decade old pcv vac line?
