i think i bought my tires too big!! help!
 

hey i have an 00 4runner 2wd, 2.7L with stock suspension, and i just bought a set of bfg AT at 32x11.50x15. now when i make a slightly hard left or right turn it rubs really bad against my front fenders. i cant even pull into a parking spot without it rubbing, its really annoying. and it only rubs on the front.
so my question is, would it be better to take my truck to a fab shop and have them cut part of my fender to fit the tires, or go with a 2.5in front lift kit? also which one would be cheaper? im looking at this one in particular, http://www.4wheelparts.com/PDT16733.aspx please any help would be awesome!

Why would you buy tires without checking to see if they fit?

Why not just put on the stock tires. You have 2wd.

because the tires that were my stock ones from when i bought it are so small, and look so dumb. but would the lift help clear the tires?

Didn't the shop that mounted them advise you that they would not fit properly?

If not, take it back and get them to admit their mistake and order you the right size.

If so, expensive lesson. I wouldn't mess with a lift kit or trimming the fenders, I'd still get the right size tire.

sorry i left one detail out...i bought the tires not from a shop but a guy was just selling them, and so i held them up next to my truck and they seemed fine. the thing is, it seems that a 2.5in body lift in the front would lift the body high enough to clear the tires. why do you think that lift kits are bad?

everyones going to rag on you because you have a 2wd truck, and you didnt make sure they'd fit before installing them.
if you want, you can resell the tires, or you can lift your truck to fit them. depending on how bad the rubbing is, you could cut some metal, but by the sound of it, it seems pretty bad since you cant even turn on level ground w/o rubbing. you could go with a spacer lift like the one you posted, or you could go with a full coil lift. the spacers will cause your old springs to sag more over time, and youll be disappointed, and the coils will give a much firmer (and better imho) ride. note that if using a ome lift, you may want to keep the top out spacer out, since you have the 2.7 instead of a 3.4. not totally sure, but just a thought. search the boards for ome lifts, or toyteclifts etc...

You need to buy the proper sized tires and sell those.

If you want to lift it then lift it. It's your choice...but IMHO it will look really stupid with the sag that 4runners already have + 2.5" for the front only lift.

you held them up next to your truck and they seemed fine?!?! dude, i've held a 35" tire next to mine and it seemed fine, but duh, it won't fit. next time, do your research instead of just guessing. but i would just say get the minimum amount of lift you need to clear them, b/c it's not like you be doing any real off-roading with that 2wd...

I would get the lift, this is a good thing. You pushed yourself into another mod and that happens to me all the time, when i finish one mod sometimes it does not really work until you do a diffrent mod. I say lift it and add some extra room so when these tires are gone your next set can be even bigger :rockin:

Easiest way would be to get some springs from a 99 4wd 4Runner.

No, the easiest would be to get the right size tire.

A lift isn't "bad", it just isn't the "proper" solution to your problem. It is a solution in other cases, but not in this case. Unless you're 'wheeling your 2wd.

For god's sake please get gap guards to go along with that.

Have you noticed any power/torque/MPG loss? If so, a lift (suspension or body) won't remedy that.

Dude! Sell them and get 31x10.5 that is a really good size tire. And if you want to so some off roading they will cut it too.

I agree with the body lift idea. Most people here turn up their noses about body lifts since it has very little benefit for offroading -- but it sounds like you just want your runner to look better without the desire for the rock crawler. But just FYI, you can't use a body lift to raise the front -- a body lift must be equal at all body mounts.
