Well...what exactly do you want to do with your truck? That'll dictate what's "best" for it.

trbizwiz 12-27-2008 12:21 PM

I second that you need to know exactly what you want out of your truck. If it's a daily driver. Maybe just a sweet set of tires. And black out the wheels. If it is an off road rig. Decide how aggressive you want to go. Then decide on your over all lift requirements. That will dictate tire size. Tire size will dictate gears. So you start with gears. If you find used ones and have money left over maybe some armor for the underside or sliders or a multifunction front bumper and extra lights. Just remember technically gears should come before tires. It's better to be geared low so you don't lug out the engine than be geared high. Even a low geared rig will be fine on the highway. Maybe top out at 70 rather than 90 but if you are geared too high everything gets extra wear on takeoff. Plus you will break stuff wheeling. High rpm's= lost control. Plus you will get your top end speed back with bigger tires down the road.
Good luck with your bonus. Anything you do will be fun. But choosing the right order may just save you money down the road.

JulsTirn 12-27-2008 12:57 PM

Mic09dcsm 12-27-2008 08:31 PM

Where's Matt16 and the other guy with a stock height rig with lockers. They should slap you silly. If you're going to be offroading get a locker first. They could probably go farther then me and I have 35"s and about 6" of lift.
