i had over 120k on mine tell the water pump seized at 188k just glad i was only a few miles from home i put in a really nice ebay kit job wasn't that bad

...if you mean non-interference, they most certainly are. But read the whole thread (I did once); the cases of TB failure at high mileage are few and most are actually caused by WP leakage or seizure.

just because you don't throw a rod doesn't mean you shouldn't change your oil...just because your plugs still spark doesn't mean you shouldn't replace them...just because your air filter hasn't disintegrated doesn't mean you shouldn't replace it...
just because your timing belt doesn't fail doesn't mean you should leave it on for 200k miles

I wish I knew if and when mine was changed. We bought the 4runner almost 2 years ago and I took the cover off and inspected everything and it all looked fine so I'm assuming someone had it replaced in the 172k miles it had on it. Now I'm about to hit 190k and I have a new belt, water pump, tensioner and idler pulley ready to go on when they're needed.

Just did the timing belt water pump, idler pulley, tensioner etc on 96 runner with 196k i just picked up and the timing belt and water pump looked original but the belt wouldnt have lasted much longer, is way dried out and cracked.

Bought the truck with 150k miles a few years ago. I now have 199,570 and brought it in for TB and water pump. I asked the mechanic if it was the original "I can't be sure. but if it isn't the worst one I've ever seen! It was full of chips and cracks." -he's been working in his old mans shop for at least 20 years. Yikes!

I assume 240,000 miles on mine... 
Only because I'm not sure if the previous owner ever replaced. I'm the third owner. Second owner said he never replaced, but was unsure if the first owner ever did. I haven't found any signs that it's ever been replaced.
I have the new TB, WP, etc. sitting in the back seat. I keep telling myself I'll get around to changing it...

I went 170,000 miles on the factory setup before having the TB, WP & belts replaced.
That set now has 130,000+ miles on it. I think I'll wait until 350,000 miles for TB job #2...
