How to clean gear oil off plastic windows
I was driving around the other day with my top off, folded neatly in the back of my truck.
I smelled Gear Oil and was like Oh-Oh whats this ??? Well it turns out that I forgot to strap down the Milk Crate in the back of my truck that I carry all my Fluids in. The gear oil 80W90 poured all over my softop :scared: (MAN THAT STUFF SMELLS NASTY  ) Well to make a long story Short, the plastic Window in my soft top is now Orange in color in some spots (Like half of it). I tired cleaning it with Windex and foaming glass cleaner.. No Luck Anyone know of something that will clean this off ?? Or is it now stained for life. ? |
Dawn or greased lightening or some other degreaser maybe?

Good old fashioned dish soap is your best bet for the plastic. Since you have nothing to lose, Simple Green is an excellent grease and oil cutter. Then buff with Novus plastic polish or similar. But my guess is that your plastic windows are stained permanently from the petroleum products.

I doubt it will clean the gear oil from your windows, but I've been using Pledge dusting spray to clean the windows of my TJ and it works pretty well. I've read on various Jeep sites that Windex and other cleaners with ammonia, etc. will damage plastic windows, but like flamedx4 said, you don't have much to lose at this point.
