How bad is "rubbing"?
As some of you guys may know, I just ordered my new wheels that will be wrapped in 33x12.5 BF Goodrich tires.
My truck only has heavy duty shackles (not yet installed) that should raise the all too common saggy rear end that I see on just about every 89-95 Pickup/4Runner Other than that, how bad am I going to be rubbing against the a-arm? And is it going to damage anything? I can't afford a lift kit yet, so I really don't have a choice (I'm not getting 31's again) And is it going to improve off-road traction much, and give me a significant difference in ride heigth?:dunno: All opinions welcome:bigok: |
Well I can tell you right now you are gonna rub like crazy in front. I put 33x12.50's on my 92 without a lift and could hardly turn. I pounded the pinch weld and bent the front valence in to make room and they still rubbed pretty bad until my lift came in. I would look into at least a 2 inch body lift to hold you over until you can afford a suspension lift just to clear the tires. You may want to crank the torsion bars too(however I'm not a big fan of this). Is your's a single cab or extended cab. Mine was an extended cab so that might make a little difference but not much I don't think. Good luck!
Jonathan **edit** I don't think I ever rubbed on the a-arm at all, but i did have a 15x10 rim. |
Good luck with that. I had the 33's on my truck before I put my SAS on and couldnt turn for crap. Have fun with those three point turns to make a left or a right.

The common recipe to fit 33s is to crank the tbars slightly, trim the areas that rub (pinchweld, plastic shield thingy, etc) and a 1inch body lift. Roger Brown sells a good kit.

Damn! You guys aren't telling me what I want to hear:bang:
Allright, I guess I'll drive around for a couple of weeks or so and get a *shiver*body lift*shiver* Will most shops be able to crank the T bars?:dunno: |
Rubbing is bad--especially if it happens on the street-imagine how it will be offroad when the shocks compress.
|
You can crank the tbars and install the BL yourself. Piece of cake. The one inch BL isn't bad at all, you pretty much add the pucks and that's all...no shifter extension, gas tank filler extension, etc.

BTW will spacers help, or just give me a more aggresive stance?:dunno:
|
No, wheel spacers make it worse. The farther out your tires sit, the worse the rub because the arc is bigger.
