help! rough idle type problem
hey everyone...i have a 1990 4runner with a 22-re engine.
It starts and runs great, when under acceleration or decceleration. It's when you're idling, or trying to maintain a constant speed....ie 50kms/hr.... that it hesitates and bucks.....kind of surges forward every few seconds. I use it to commute to school every day....so im a little leary of yanking the tank off to test the fuel pump (which somebody at toyota suggested). Any other ideas? THanks. |
Maybe try cleaning the throttle body and putting some new plugs in.

New plugs and TPS cleaning, I had the same problem. New plugs and some TPS cleaning and a little cleaning on the throttle body took it away...but, its kinda coming back now. Time to tear it down and do some hardcore cleaning on it!
Hope that helps! Fink:devil: |
Don't think it's a fuel delivery problem -- you say it accelerates well? Sounds more like an emission control issue. I'm really inclined to think it's a sticking-open EGR valve.

Hey all,
it turns out the problem was with the number one spark plug wire.....it was losing some spark power in that cylinder causing it to falter. Thanks for the help tho! |
