HELP!!!! Heater core installation

I need to know where i look at a step by step.

I have the book on this thing (22rtec runner) but I seem to have alot more stuff underneath the dash then the book shows.

Where can i look?

Well, I've done it on a 2nd gen vehicle... my little 'step-by-step' will have to wait a while though.

I take it this book you have isn't a factory manual?
There might be some info on the net about removing the dash on a 1st gen vehicle, but most of the write-ups seem to be for 2nd/3rd gen vehicles.

I reckon just tackle it head on... with some common sense you can carefully remove the various dash pieces without breaking anything. Just take your time, make notes so you know the order that things were removed... even take some photos. Also make sure all bolts etc. are labelled.

Once removing the passenger, driver and center dash pieces you then have to remove the instrument cluster and surround. Then the top dash pieces comes off, and the various heating ducts need to be removed.
Check that you have disconnected the heater hoses from the heater core (in the engine bay).
There should be a box-like assembly near where the transmission hump meets the firewall (this directs air to the different ducts). This assembly contains the heater core, so when you unbolt it take care not to spill coolant all over your interior.

Hope this is of some help,
Dave.

Edit: correction

I'd be interested to know where it leaked? a hole in the core, or maybe the o-ring...

Well my first little tip would be to take a deep breath ;)

Where are you at? what's the problem exactly?

Twisted4runner May 13, 2003 02:19 PM

how about those bolts right next to the windsheild

HiLux_1990 May 14, 2003 09:36 AM

Are you referring to how the top dash piece (that runs down to the bottom of the windscreen) is attached?
Right along front edge are 5 (I think) plastic studs... the middle one is the most tricky.
If you have all the other bolts removed, carefully pull up the dash piece from along the windscreen.

Ok its a first gen and all of them are bolts I need someone who knows exactly what to do here its really pi$$ing me off and im gonna break stuff very soon
