Help with CD install...
 

what do i need to do to install a new CD player and amp. ive installed an amp before, but never a new CD player. what i need to buy/do?

what kind of cd player? specs? etc ?

I think the only real thing you need is the stock wiring harness kit. It plugs into your harness and you just connect w/the deck. It even comes w/the standard colors and it even had the labels for the wires. Makes installing stereos really easy and you don't need to cut the factory connector off.

No, it is not hard at all to get to the wiring harness. It is in the back of the stereo. Also, for the amp, you will need some power cable, stereo wire, remote wire, and inline fuse and holder and various connectors. That should be about it, along with patience and time. Take your time and you will be thoroughly satisfied! Goodluck! :beaver:

yeah i got me a 8 guage amp kit, but do i need to buy one of these CD install kits i keep seeing or what???

This is semi off-topic, but its a good example of what I'm wanting out of some of you folks: lets see some write ups of your stereo installations! Now when it comes to stereos there is room for many different examples and so its not like I'm looking for the one single ultimate perfect install. Borrow or use that digital camera of yours and send me what you got, along with your components and what the final result is like.

No you don't need one of those cd install kits. All you need is that wiring harness. Very simple. Corey gave you the link to get you to the cd player and the harness is a snap to connect, colors + labels. Installing an amp is a harder task than a head unit. You said you can install the amp, so this should be no prob. It's your choice on how you want to connect the wiring. solder, crimps its up to you. Good luck.

dont you also need a little cubby hole thing to make it so it will fit in the oversize stock deck hole. unless thats an oversize aftermarket deck.

I've seen install kits that include a filler "pocket" for the space below the unit. I was wonder the same thing. The space is also a good place to mount gauges.

ya on my cd player i have a little cubby hole thing that has a latching door on it. before i put your deck in i just took the little bracket things off the sides off the stock deck and it holds the deck and the cubby together

where can i get a stock wiring harness kit?

Stock wiring harness kit from a local car audio shop. Make sure it fits though before you leave. With the CD install kits, I'm all for them. The factory radio is double-DIN, and the DEH-P6400 is single-DIN, so unless you want to have an empty hole under your CD player, I'd say either fill it with a matching piece of plastic, or get the kit like I did. I ended up putting my EQ in the little slot under the radio. Looks nice.

yea all I did was a cd wiring kit for toyotas which cost me like 6 bucks at Wal-mart. After that, it was all ghetto rigging with extension cords :)

One thing to note. When you are attaching the cd player's wires to the harness you just bought, it's best to soilder them together then use shrink wrap or electrical tape around each wire to insulate them. Once all the necessary wires are joined and insulated, use electrical tape again and cover everything making one big wire. At this point you can use loom or not for added protection - I haven't.
