HELP! 265-75-16's

I need to get new tires today because I had a blowout yesterday on my crappy dunlops. I am going to get BFG AT KO's, but the stock size 265-70-16 for 4 tires mounted and balanced is $792.00. The guy at the tire place said that the 265-75-16 would only be $640.00 if they would fit (more common tire size), but will they fit. :dunno: I have a stock suspension 98 4runner limited, no real hard core off roading. I have to make a decision by 12:00 today. Thanks in advance.

yes they will fit.

bamachem Feb 10, 2005 05:55 AM

yes, they will fit fine. you will lose a slight bit of "power" and also 1-2 MPG.

be careful though. get big meats and you'll want to lift it. then you'll take it offroad to see what it can do. then you'll want a locker to see how far you can push it. then you'll get a bumper and winch to get you out of the trouble the locker will get you into. then you'll get bigger tires and then need a bigger lift...

see where this is going??? :D

It's already got the rear locker, but I leave all of my offroading to my 98 taco sitting on 33's, or my 4 wheeler (yfz450). Thanks for the quick replies. About how much higher is the tire, and will I have any rubbing issues? Thanks

Its barely 1" taller. I didn't have any rubbing issues when I had the stock suspension.

If you do rub, it won't be very much.

Are you getting the BFG for looks if you don't go offroad with them? Why not some Revos? or Michelins? or... you could possibly save a couple of hundred bones over the BFG. just my measly $.02

I work for a excavation / construction company and am always going to jobsites in the summer time that are muddy and filled with potholes. Also I have the at ko's on my taco and love them in the snow, very predictable to drive with lots of traction when needed. And I guess because I think that they look bad ass. (I absolutley hate the way street tires look on trucks)

Here is what my truck looked like with 265-75-16 with the stock suspension. They did rub just a little bit at first on the plastic that comes off the front bumper. A razor knife took care of that, I shaved about 1/4 in off the plastic and it didnt rub anymore. And yes it will make you want to lift your truck :)

If your truck is likely to spend 90% of the time on the street then get a tire with a mileage warranty and good manners in the wet which those BFGs have neither. They're great off road but on road they act like an off road tire since they are. Go with a set of Revos or Yok Geolandars if you want a solid on and off road tire and both have a 50k treadwear warranty.

I have 265/75s on my Runner with stock suspension and it has zero rubbing issues.

...and after you get the bigger lift and bigger meats, then you'll want to regear and add a front locker with OBA. after that, you'll get a supercharger, then you'll add all kinds of fuel mods. why? because by this point, you'll be hopelessly bitten and infected by the mod bug. then all your hard work will be admired by others and the bug will continue to spread...

The Speedometer is 3.4% too slow. IE: When your speedo says you are going 60mph, you are really going 62 mph.

Thanks for all of your replies guys. I ended up getting the 265-75-16's BFG AT KOS. They had a sweet deal I could not turn down. Buy 3 get 1 free. Ended up paying $450.00 mounted and balanced for all 4 tires. The tire guy said that BFG had an overrun of these tires in this size, so they got them at a good price. Thanks again!
